In person at the office in Pinsk or remotely by phone or video call. I explain the applicable Belarusian law, the available options and the risks of each.
Documents for state bodies and courts are prepared in Russian, and I explain their content to you in English. Where needed, I represent you before authorities and courts anywhere in Belarus.
Language of official proceedings
Criminal, administrative and civil proceedings in Belarus are conducted in Belarusian and/or Russian. If you do not speak the language of the proceedings, or do not speak it well enough, you have the right to make statements, give explanations and speak in your own language or another language you know, and to use the services of an interpreter free of charge. The interpreter is engaged by the court or the authority conducting the case. As your advocate, I work alongside the interpreter, not instead of one.
Confidentiality
Information you share with an advocate in connection with legal assistance is protected by advocate secrecy under the Law of the Republic of Belarus on the Bar and Advocacy. It cannot be obtained from the advocate or used as evidence, and the advocate cannot be questioned as a witness about it.
Fees
Fees are agreed before work begins and set out in a written legal assistance agreement. For individuals resident in Belarus, including foreign nationals holding a permanent residence permit, fees follow the recommended rates of the Belarusian Republican Bar Association (consultation from BYN 90, drafting documents from BYN 135, one day of representation from BYN 225 to 360 depending on the type of case; base unit BYN 45). For non-residents, Belarusian citizens permanently living abroad, and companies and sole proprietors in business matters, the fee is agreed individually, depending on the complexity and urgency of the matter. Payment is made by bank transfer to the account of the Brest Regional Bar Association or at the legal consultation office in Pinsk.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get a consultation in English without coming to Pinsk?
Yes. Consultations are available by phone, video call, Telegram, WhatsApp and email, both for people elsewhere in Belarus and abroad. Documents can be exchanged electronically. Attending in person is necessary for court hearings and certain procedural steps.
Will the court or the police provide an interpreter?
Yes, where you do not speak Belarusian or Russian well enough. In criminal, administrative and civil proceedings you have the right to use the services of an interpreter free of charge; the interpreter is engaged by the body conducting the case. In criminal cases procedural documents, and in administrative cases the decision, are handed to you in translation into your native language or a language you know.
I have been ordered to be deported for breaking the rules of stay. How much time do I have to appeal?
A decision imposing deportation as an administrative penalty may be appealed within five days of its announcement; most other decisions in administrative offence cases, within ten days. An appeal filed on time suspends the deportation while it is being considered. A separate expulsion decision taken by the internal affairs or state security authorities may be appealed to the higher authority within five working days of notification, and after that in court.
My application for a residence permit was refused. Can the decision be challenged?
Yes. A refusal to issue a temporary or permanent residence permit may be challenged by an administrative complaint to the higher authority, and then in court. A complaint against cancellation of a residence permit or shortening of the period of temporary stay may be filed with the higher authority within ten working days of notification.
In which language will I receive documents?
Documents for Belarusian authorities and courts are prepared in Russian, the language of the proceedings. I explain each document to you in English before it is signed and filed.
